I cannot believe we are already approaching our mid-way mark–-these past 3 weeks have just flown by! After countless brainstorming sessions, deliberations and debriefing meetings, we have finalized our schedules and programs. Mike did an excellent job at providing outlines of all of the projects we will be pursuing, so I’ll just focus in on a few of the projects I’m currently working on. I’m excited to be continuing work on the book project at Etoile de Mer. This past week my class recently began construction of their books by creating illustrations for their written work and had an absolute blast doing it. They could see it slowly taking shape and becoming a real work of their own. I cannot wait to see the final product!
In addition, I will be working on a health and fitness program at Fatima. My time thus far at Fatima almost always includes playing basketball, volleyball, or soccer so channeling that energy into a structured program will be a phenomenal exercise. Caroline and I have had a blast playing basketball with the girls and after running a few drills they are well on their way to becoming basketball studs. I was thrilled that the next week a few girls wanted to play again! There will also be a classroom component of the curriculum, which will explore several facets of health education from goal making to healthy decision-making. Sarah and I have collaborated to hone the best of our community heath educator skills and tailor a program that they will hopefully find both useful and fun!
The other fellows are also continuing work on existing projects and starting a few new ones as well. It’s great to work in such a positive atmosphere of collaboration and teamwork that we can all help each other out on different projects. From bouncing lesson plan ideas off each other to rallying facebook votes for the Chase Community giving contest while listening to Taylor Swift, it’s been a blast.
