The hills are alive…

June 21, 2011 by Cédric in Uncategorized

Students, students, students!

Over the past week, the rest of the fellows and I have been visiting various schools located near our education center in an effort to spread the news about our big opening day on Saturday. I have had a lot of different adventures at Mauritian secondary schools, or collèges. At one school, a few other fellows and I talked to over 300 girls in one hour. At another, we engaged a packed classroom in singing, dance, and an exploding science experiment. And on what may have been my most adventurous sojourn, a student took me hunting for wild fruits and I snacked on fresh sugar cane. Adventurous, indeed.

And now more students are coming to the center every day! It’s been amazing to see the number grow as the students become more engaged in our projects and spread the word to their friends and peers. I’ve been especially impressed with my music students—they learned half of a song in English in just two days. I can’t wait to see what the future holds 
