ELI Wooff Sterilization Day

August 21, 2015 by Pravisan in ELI WOOFF

Following our awareness campaign in Cité Mangalkhan about the importance of spay and neuter, ELI Wooff held today a sterilization day in collaboration with the ministry of Agro Industry and the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the Floréal Youth Center where the residents who registered themselves with ELI Wooff had the opportunity to have their pets sterilized for free.

As early as 09 00, the inhabitants started arriving with their pets. After registration and a photo session, they waited to have their pets sterilized and, this was a hard time for the owners who were anxious about how their pets would feel after the process. Many of them would ask our volunteers and the vets present whether the operation could be painful for their pets or could lead to unexpected complications. Unknowingly, hidden behind this anxiety was the love they have for their pets. For all of them, their pets have a special place in their family. From having dinner together with their pets or sleeping next to them, the people we met showed unconditional love towards their pets. Moreover, we also had the chance again to inform those present about the importance of sterilization and responsible pet ownership and seeing their enthusiasm and commitment, we believe that they will contribute to the welfare of our animals. In all, sixteen dogs and three cats were sterilized.

The sterilization day symbolizes the debut of victory for animals and animal welfare in Mauritius and this victory was possible due to the participation of our stakeholders and our wondrous volunteers! We hope to hold another sterilization day soon for we believe that through education and concrete action we can promote animal welfare and make a difference in the life of our furry friends.
