Today, on the 4th of October, the world celebrates the World Animal Day. This represents a compassionate initiative meant to convey our respect, gratitude and love to all our fellow creatures; but, should we wait for this specific date to show our affection to our animals?
The irony here is that, hitherto, animals are still victims of man’s frustration and cruelty. Factory farming, wool and leather industry, poaching, animal experimentation in different laboratories, circuses, zoos and the list goes on.
How can we celebrate this day, when all we have been doing up to now is to use them for our comfort and benefit? Aren’t they being treated as mere objects?
Our love and respect for these creatures must be ALWAYS shown.
Here, at ELI Africa, we believe and advocate for animal rights and welfare. Our principle is to take a stance on what is virtuous and to work towards it.
Today, let us take some time to reflect on our daily actions and how we can improve to make their lives better.
Let us not forget that they also have feelings and their rights need to be respected.
Happy World Animal Day!
